Financial Assistance Policy
“The Rec” Scholarship Fund
The Harwich Recreation Department strives to make its programs accessible to all community
members. Financial assistance may be available to Harwich residents and eligible school choice
students who wish to participate in Recreation Department sponsored programs. This policy
outlines the guidelines for awarding assistance in a fair and equitable manner.
Financial assistance is dependent upon community donations to “The Rec” Scholarship Fund and
may not be available for all programs or activities.
General Guidelines
- Financial assistance is provided in the form of reduced registration fees for Recreation Department sponsored programs only.
- Assistance is available to:
- Harwich residents
- Harwich Elementary School students
- Monomoy Regional School District school choice students
Proof of Residency
Applicants must provide documentation to verify residency. Acceptable forms include:
- Applicant’s driver’s license or photo ID
- Minor’s Choice ID or letter of enrollment
Application Requirements
Residents applying for financial assistance must complete an application and submit any
requested financial information. All applications will be reviewed confidentially.
Eligibility Categories
Verified Financial Need
Applicants who receive assistance from a federal, state, or local agency, or who have a referral from
a school or social service agency, may be eligible for up to a 50% reduction in program fees. Proof
of participation in an assistance program is required.
Personal or Family Hardship
Applicants not currently receiving assistance from a federal, state, or local agency may be eligible
for up to a 30% reduction in program fees. Applicants must provide a brief explanation describing
the hardship or circumstances prompting the request.
Notification and Payment
- Applicants will receive an email notification from the Recreation Department within 10 business days of submitting a completed application.
- Once approved, applicants are responsible for paying their portion of the registration fee
- upon notification.
Additional Information
- The Recreation Department reserves the right to exercise discretion in all financial assistance decisions.
- All applicant information and documentation will be kept strictly confidential.
